Yes. When Google shows an AI-generated summary at the top of the results, it adds an inference step to the conventional search (the model builds the summary token by token). That query therefore uses more energy than a search without AI and comes closer to a ChatGPT query. This is why the boundary between "searching" and "generating" is blurring, and why the idea of a clear gap between the two no longer holds.
