Full definition
Insetting involves a company funding climate actions (reforestation, agroforestry, supplier energy transitions, regenerative agriculture) directly among its suppliers or within its operational ecosystem, rather than buying carbon credits from external projects. Benefits: impact accounted for in scope 3 (direct reduction rather than offsetting), supply-chain resilience, traceability and a strong narrative link. Emerging standards: Insetting Protocol (2020, supported by L’Oréal, Nespresso, Plan A), SBTi FLAG methodologies for agrifood. Do not confuse it with offsetting (external projects outside the value chain) or with avoided emissions (a distinct Carbone 4 concept counting reductions in the consumption of sold products).
