The method in brief

What is a Bilan Carbone®?

Bilan Carbone® is the greenhouse gas emissions accounting method maintained by the Association pour la transition Bas Carbone. It measures direct emissions, emissions from purchased energy and emissions from the value chain, then provides the basis for a reduction plan.

Our services

Our carbon accounting support

We organise data collection with your teams and build an assessment suited to your activities. The analysis helps identify the main emission categories, discuss reduction measures and prepare an action plan.

  1. 1

    The organisation's Bilan Carbone®

We define the study scope, organise data collection and calculate direct and indirect emissions. The analysis presents the main emission categories, data quality and the assumptions adopted.

  2. 2

    Updating an existing assessment

We review the data and method from the previous assessment to prepare its update. Changes in scope and calculations are documented so that differences can be interpreted.

  3. 3

    Action plan and team workshops

We examine reduction measures with the teams concerned and organise proposals by priority, feasibility and responsibility. The presentation gives decision-makers the information needed to decide.

  4. 4

    Organising monitoring

We prepare collection materials and indicators for subsequent assessments. Handover to internal leads helps them update data and monitor actions.

Deliverables

3 documents, from calculation to action plan

Each project concludes with documents your teams can use and keep up to date. The previews below are fictional: they show the format of the documents.

How a project unfolds

  1. Define the scope

Entities, sites, activities and reference year: we define what the study must cover.

  2. Organise data collection

We identify the data to gather and the contacts, then support your teams in collecting it.

  3. Calculate and analyse

Emissions are assessed using documented data and factors. We examine emission categories and uncertainties.

  4. Build the next steps

We present the results and work with you on actions, monitoring and the next steps.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions

The questions we are most often asked before starting a project.

The initial discussion helps us understand your activity, sites and reasons for the work. You do not need to have collected all the data already. We define the information to gather and the people to involve.
Yes. We examine the report and available data to determine what can be reused. The additional information needed and any limits on comparison are specified before the study.
Bilan Carbone® is a method for carbon accounting and preparing the transition. A greenhouse gas emissions report (BEGES) is a publication obligation for the organisations covered, with its own rules. We define the intended uses of the work from the outset.
We prepare a proposal after an initial discussion. It sets out the scope, the data to gather, the deliverables and the stages of the engagement. The quotation reflects the work to undertake and how your teams are organised.
