Ecobalyse has 4 main limits, starting with its scope: the regulatory score covers clothing only, and footwear, bags and accessories are excluded, with no published timetable for extending it. The tool is also parametric: it relies on generic inventories and does not model LCA data specific to each supplier. Its deliberately penalising default values can raise a score by 30 to 60% when data is missing. Finally, the method may change: only v7.0.0 is regulatory today, and when a new version is released, brands have 12 months to update their scores.
