At around 2.5 billion queries a day and 0.34 Wh each, ChatGPT would use in the order of 0.3 TWh a year, the electricity consumption of around 60,000 French households. All generative AI would account for 15 TWh in 2025 according to Schneider Electric, and 347 TWh in 2030. For all data centres combined, the IEA projects a rise from ~415 TWh in 2024 to ~945 TWh in 2030, about 3% of global electricity.
