The only figure we read, nearly 5 million people, comes from a French Senate report of April 2026. Citing a study by Coface, it presents 16.3% of French employment as under threat within 2 to 5 years, when AI systems able to carry out chains of tasks on their own are massively deployed. The French Treasury cites the same percentages, 3.8% in 2026 and up to 16.3% within 2 to 5 years, as a share of work content; it states that the indicator measures tasks and does not indicate the share of jobs threatened with elimination. Axelle Arquié, co-author of the study, told the French National Assembly on 8 April 2026 that it does not speak of 5 million jobs destroyed, but of a percentage of potentially automatable tasks (our translation). None of the sources we read gives a figure for jobs eliminated by AI in France.
