You can do without an assistant, but AI built in by default is harder to avoid. Google's AI Overviews arrived in France on 22 July 2026, Meta's assistant has been present in WhatsApp since 2025, and Microsoft has included Copilot in its consumer subscriptions, with a setting to turn it off. ADEME has asked for users to be able to switch these functions off.
