Digital Product Passport

European digital product passport that will make environmental and technical data for many products public from 2026-2030.

Full definition

Digital Product Passport. A product’s digital identity accessible via QR code, NFC or data matrix barcode. Content: composition, origin, recyclability, environmental impact (LCA), repair instructions and end of life. Governed by the ESPR Regulation (EU 2024/1781). Timeline: application on 19 July 2026; first effective sector, batteries, on 18 February 2027 (Regulation 2023/1542). Followed by 18 priority categories (textiles, electronics, furniture, steel, chemicals, etc.) through to 2030. Do not confuse it with French environmental labelling (a single consumer label, ADEME/Ecobalyse methodology) or with EPDs/FDES (voluntary construction declarations).
