European Regulation 2024/1781 establishing the framework for eco-design and the Digital Product Passport.

Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation, EU Regulation 2024/1781 of 13 June 2024. European framework extending the 2009 Ecodesign Directive (ErP, limited to energy) to all products except food, medicines and living organisms. Requires Digital Product Passports (DPP), bans the destruction of certain unsold goods and opens the way to product environmental performance and durability requirements. Timeline: entry into force on 18 July 2024, application on 19 July 2026, first sector-specific delegated acts from 2026 (priorities: textiles, footwear, furniture, electronics, steel, chemicals, cement). Do not confuse it with Batteries Regulation 2023/1542 (first effective DPP, 2027) or with the EU Footprint Directive.
