Full definition
Géorisques is the official entry point for assessing the exposure of a plot, site or municipality to natural and technological risks. Jointly operated by the Ministry for Ecological Transition and BRGM, it provides access to 17 downloadable databases. The most useful for an assessment are: the historical flood database (BDHI), flood zoning, groundwater rise zones, the clay shrink-swell exposure map whose 2026 update incorporates climate change effects, the underground cavity inventory, the ground movement database, industrial installations and the pollutant emissions register, and contaminated sites and soils. Data can be exported as CSV and accessed through WMS and WFS mapping services. The portal serves three distinct audiences: individuals, local authorities and professionals. For a business, it is the source documenting a site’s exposure to regulatory zoning, information that affects compliance, insurability and physical risk reporting.
