The directive in brief

What is the EmpCo directive?

Directive (EU) 2024/825 regulates environmental claims addressed to consumers: generic statements, labels and carbon neutrality based on offsetting. It has applied in the Union since 27 September 2026. In France, the transposing law has not yet been passed, but current law already penalises misleading claims.

Audit, evidence and revised wording

Packaging, product sheets, websites, service offers or campaigns: we examine messages across their different media. The analysis considers what is claimed, the intended audiences and the evidence available to substantiate it.

  1. 1

    Environmental claims audit

We inventory messages on your packaging, websites and campaigns, whether they concern a product, a service or an activity. The report examines wording and evidence to identify the points requiring further investigation and the changes to prepare.

  2. 2

    Building the evidence

We gather the technical data supporting the messages retained. A further study, a product carbon footprint or a life cycle assessment (LCA) may be proposed where the available evidence is insufficient.

  3. 3

    Revising the wording

We work with marketing and communication teams to connect each formulation to what the data can support. Proposals include the evidence and qualifications to retain.

  4. 4

    Monitoring and technical support

We help update files and prepare the technical evidence needed for a client request or an inspection, working with the company's legal advisers.

How a project unfolds

  1. Inventory communications

We gather the claims on your products, packaging, website and commercial materials.

  2. Examine substantiation

We compare the wording with the studies, data and documents available, defining their scope.

  3. Work on the wording

We examine with your teams the adjustments to make to messages and the further analysis required.

  4. Compile the evidence file

We organise the evidence and validation arrangements to make it easier to consult and update.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions

The questions we are most often asked before starting a project.

Yes. We can examine messages in preparation, packaging drafts or pages being written. This helps define the evidence required and adjust the wording before publication.
The work depends on what is claimed. A message about a specific characteristic does not require the same evidence as an impact comparison over the whole life cycle. We start by examining existing evidence before proposing a further study.
We provide technical analysis of messages, environmental data and supporting evidence. Legal decisions are addressed with your adviser; we can provide them with a documented file to support their review.
We prepare a proposal after an initial discussion. It sets out the scope, the data to gather, the deliverables and the stages of the engagement. The quotation reflects the work to undertake and how your teams are organised.
