Structural timber emits 2 to 4 times less than concrete, but the supply chain is constrained, height is capped at R+7 without a hybrid structure and cost is 5 to 15% higher. Low-carbon concrete reduces emissions by 30 to 50% compared with standard concrete, with sufficient mechanical performance: it is the best cost-carbon compromise on many projects. The choice depends on building type, height and construction feasibility.
