Since Law No 2025-391 of 30 April 2025, the criterion has been consumption rather than company size: any company registered with the RCS whose average annual final energy consumption reaches 2.75 GWh must carry out an energy audit every 4 years, unless it has implemented an energy management system. From 23.6 GWh, an ISO 50001-certified energy management system becomes mandatory. Newly affected companies must carry out their first audit no later than 11 October 2026. The former threshold of 250 employees no longer applies.
