Climate Mitigation

Actions aimed at reducing GHG emissions or increasing carbon sinks.

Full definition

One of the two sides of climate action, alongside adaptation. According to the IPCC, mitigation means acting on the cause (reducing emissions). Covers all levers: energy efficiency, renewable energy, electrification, carbon capture, agricultural/forest sequestration and sufficiency. Do not confuse it with adaptation (which addresses the consequences of climate disruption, whereas mitigation addresses its cause).
