Example: 1 kg of methane = 28 kgCO2e (100-year GWP, AR5). Enables a single figure to be communicated for all emissions. Standard unit for carbon inventories and SBTi targets. Do not confuse it with CO2 alone (only carbon dioxide): CO2e (CO2 equivalent) aggregates all GHGs weighted by their 100-year GWP (methane × 28, N2O × 273, etc. according to IPCC AR6).
