CN Code

Combined Nomenclature

8-digit European customs code classifying each good: determines whether an imported product falls within CBAM’s scope.

Full definition

The Combined Nomenclature (CN) is the EU customs classification system: 8 digits, the first 6 from the international Harmonized System plus 2 European digits. Determines customs duties, foreign trade statistics and, for CBAM, whether a product is among the roughly 570 covered codes. In France, a good’s CN code is identified through customs’ RITA database. This is the starting point for any CBAM exposure assessment.
