Carbon Risk Real Estate Monitor

European scientific framework for decarbonisation pathways by building type, used by real estate actors to assess an asset’s carbon risk.

Full definition

Carbon Risk Real Estate Monitor, an academic initiative co-funded by the EU (Horizon 2020) and the LIFE programme, led by the University of Innsbruck and IIÖ. Publishes sector-specific 1.5°C / 2°C pathways by building type (offices, retail, logistics, residential, hospitality, healthcare) and EU country. Main metric: operational carbon intensity in kgCO2e/m²/year. Identifies an asset’s ‘stranding’ date (the year its intensity exceeds the 1.5°C pathway). Adopted by INREV, CRREM Global, IFRS S2. Do not confuse it with RE2020 (French regulation for new buildings only) or with HQE/BREEAM/LEED certifications (qualitative rating, rather than a pathway).
