DRIAS: future climates

Météo-France portal providing reference regional climate projections for adaptation in France, now also presented using TRACC warming levels.

Full definition

DRIAS is the national portal for regional climate projections, implemented by Météo-France with the climate science community (IPSL, CERFACS, CNRM) and supported by France 2030. It comprises three areas: support (user guides and good practice), discovery (location-based visualisation for mainland France and overseas territories), and data and products (downloadable datasets). It provides standard variables, temperature, precipitation, soil drought indices and fire weather danger, using several models and emissions scenarios. The portal now incorporates the TRACC, allowing projections to be read at France’s chosen warming levels rather than only by calendar horizon. DRIAS-Eau provides their hydrological counterpart. Two reading precautions: a climate projection is a distribution across multiple models rather than a single figure, and several DRIAS indices are normalised against a local reference, making them relative rather than absolute. This applies to the dry-soil index, normalised against each soil’s available water capacity.
