Full definition
The revised F-Gas Regulation (EU 2024/573, in force since 11 March 2024) replaces Regulation 517/2014. It requires a progressive ban timeline for hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) according to their GWP across all stationary uses: air conditioning, refrigeration, heat pumps. Key air-conditioning deadlines: ban on single splits ≤ 12 kW with GWP ≥ 150 on 1 January 2027 (R32 and R410A phase-out in single splits); ban on splits/multisplits > 12 kW with GWP ≥ 750 on 1 January 2029 (R410A phase-out in VRV); ban on maintenance of HFC equipment with GWP ≥ 750 on 1 January 2032. The objective is a near-end to HFCs in Europe by 2050. Replacement refrigerants for the market are R454B (GWP 466), R32 (GWP 675, allowed in some uses until 2027) and R290 propane (GWP 3).
