Full definition
ISO 16128 defines a method for calculating the natural origin percentage of a cosmetic ingredient or formula. It makes a ‘natural’ claim objective by quantifying it (‘92 % natural origin according to ISO 16128’) rather than using it alone, which the EmpCo Directive bans. The standard concerns only ingredient origin, rather than safety or environmental performance.
