An MRI emits between 8.5 and 13.7 kgCO₂e per examination, a CT scan between 2.1 and 4.5 kgCO₂e, and an ultrasound around 0.65 kgCO₂e. Ultrasound is 33 times less emitting than MRI. Over 10 years, an imaging department emits around 4,600 tonnes of CO₂e, with 48% from MRI and 24% from CT scans.
