What is the PEF method?

1111 questions from 157 articles available in English.

PEF (Product Environmental Footprint) is the European life cycle assessment method, developed by the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC) to enable products to be compared with each other. It relies on ISO 14040/14044 but fixes the choices that ISO LCA leaves to the practitioner: mandatory EF database, fixed allocation rules, 16 mandatory indicators and an aggregated score. Product category rules, PEFCRs, complement it, and Recommendation (EU) 2021/2279 establishes its framework. It forms the basis of French textile environmental labelling.
