LCA (ISO 14040/44) is flexible: the practitioner makes explicit methodological choices, allowing the study to be adapted to any product but permitting differences of 20-30% between two studies of the same product. PEF (the European method) fixes all these choices, database, allocation and boundaries, to enable comparison between products or brands. LCA is unbeatable for internal eco-design, PEF for public labelling and comparability.
