Prioritise the exact cell chemistry (NMC, LFP or NCA) with the composition of active materials (cathode, anode, electrolyte, separator), the manufacturing factory’s electricity mix and the geographical origin of materials. The electricity mix in the manufacturing country is the leading impact factor: an NMC811 cell ranges from 27 kgCO2e/kWh in Norway to 155 in China. Specify the expected units (kWh per battery, kgCO2e per kWh of cell, shares in %) and contact the factory’s technical manager rather than the salesperson. Allow 8 to 12 weeks to obtain a usable dataset from an Asian supplier.
