The 16 PEF impact categories are: climate change, ozone depletion, human toxicity (cancer effects), human toxicity (non-cancer effects), particulate matter, ionising radiation, photochemical ozone formation, acidification, terrestrial eutrophication, freshwater eutrophication, marine eutrophication, freshwater ecotoxicity, land use, water use, mineral and metal resource depletion, fossil resource depletion. Each has a unit and characterisation method fixed by Recommendation (EU) 2021/2279. Results can be weighted and aggregated into a single score to compare products in the same category.
