In the assignments we observe with SMEs and mid-sized companies, the first year mainly relies on energy and mobility quick wins, whose gains depend on these sources’ share of the footprint. A structured plan including purchasing can target a cumulative -25 to -35% over 3 years. Beyond that, significant CAPEX, product R&D and often a business model change are needed. This is possible but goes beyond a conventional annual action plan. Ambitious SBTi pathways (aligned with 1.5°C) typically require -42% by 2030 compared with 2019: achievable, but only with real management commitment.
