In 2028: Regulation (EU) 2026/667 delayed the start of ETS2 operation by one year. Energy suppliers will have to cover emissions linked to their sales with allowances from 1 January 2028 and surrender them for the first time on 31 May 2029. The European Commission is scheduling early allowance auctions from January 2027, with no surrender obligation for fuels sold that year.
