Not systematically in the early phase: an ADEME Bilan Produit® (free, hosted on Base Empreinte®) or a qualitative ESQCV approach is enough for scoping. But a full LCA compliant with ISO 14040/44 becomes essential for choosing between competing scenarios, validating the final improvement or producing elements compliant with ESPR, DPP or EmpCo.
